THE LAKE DISTRICT & INDUSTRIAL BRITAIN HISTORIC NETWALKING TOUR BY WINSHAW

The perfect itinerary for a classic British Lake District weekend with an industrial twist. Scale the peaks and troughs that once played a quite different role than the picture perfect landscape of today suggests. Ideal for lovers of copper, lead, iron ore, slate, granite and bobbin mills who enjoy a good walk, good company, and good food!

48-HOUR BRITISH MINING & METALS EXPEDITION

From the original High Street, trace Britain's trading past via legendary Roman roads and the 15th century graphite discoveries behind a once thriving pencil trade, before seeing the scars of the mining and quarrying boom behind the Industrial Revolution with your own eyes. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Lake District still retains a nod to its trading past with local slate, timber and wool exported across the world.

Experience the classic Lake District weekend, combining spectacular mountain walks, challenging peaks and fresh air with executive transport, exceptional hospitality and time to relax in some of the region’s finest hotels. From exhilarating ridge scrambles and panoramic summit views to hearty lunches, characterful country pubs, local ales and fine dining, this exclusive escape brings together adventure, comfort and camaraderie in one of England’s most beautiful landscapes.

The Lake District is rich in historic mineral resources, with former copper mines at Coniston, lead mines around Greenside and the Caldbeck Fells, graphite mines in Borrowdale, and slate quarries at Honister and Kirkstone. These sites supplied valuable industrial commodities, while the region’s rivers, reservoirs, forests and farms provided the water, power, timber and food that helped turbo-charge economic growth.
